Krishna Janmashtami
Marks the birth of Krishna, kept on the eighth tithi of the dark fortnight of Shravana.
How the date is set: Krishna Paksha Ashtami of Bhadrapada in the Amanta reckoning; the Smarta rule prefers the day on which Ashtami, with Rohini, prevails at midnight.
Regional note: Smarta and Vaishnava traditions sometimes keep Janmashtami on consecutive days, so some listings show a second date.
Date verified against Drik Panchang, Office Holidays.
