Navaratri begins
The first day of the autumn Navaratri, beginning on the first tithi of the bright fortnight of Ashvina.
How the date is set: Shukla Paksha Pratipada of Ashvina, the day of Ghatasthapana, taken on the day the tithi prevails at sunrise.
Regional note: The bright fortnight of Ashvina coincides in the Amanta and Purnimanta reckonings, so the start date is the same in both.
